After a long and exciting day of summer fun, the last thing you want to have is a sunburn.  Thankfully, there are many ways to prevent that from happening. The most simplest and effective way of preventing sunburn is to use a sunscreen. Sunscreen contain specific ingredients which protects the skin from the sun’s harmful ultraviolet (UV) rays. UVA rays (which cause wrinkling, sagging, and other signs of early aging) and UVB rays (which are the main reason behind sunburns) damage your skin and increase your chances of skin cancer. That is why it’s vital to pick a sunscreen that offers a broad-spectrum (UVA and UVB) protection, has a SPF of at least 25 or higher, and is water resistant if you plan on taking a dip. In addition to sunscreen, stay in the shade and wear a hat!

What to do when you have a sunburn?

One of the most asked questions during the summer is “What are ways to relieve a sunburn?”  One of the first steps should be to go indoors and take a cool and refreshing shower. This guarantees an instant relief. Next, you should use lotions (especially with aloe vera) to moisturize and soothe your skin. There are a lot of natural remedies you can try, just be careful to test it out on a small part on your arms to see how it reacts with your skin.

Also, remember to drink lots of water and other liquids. Because your skin is super dry, staying hydrated will allow your skin to heal more quickly.

Here are some of my favorite products to use on sunburnt skin

Dr. Sturm calming serum:

·         Gentle formula helps improve sensitivity over time and helps reduce redness and burning
