Let’s ask our founder Georgia Louise about summer skincare tips. This means buying new SPF as yours probably has expired and yes, you guessed it, staying out of the sun!!!
Can I stop using my moisturizer now that it is summer as my face feels oily?
NO! You just need to change your moisturizer to a lighter version. If you are a La Mer fan, use The Moisturizing Cool Gel Cream for example, or from Biologique Recherche use the Emulsion Gel Biosensible. These are great options to keep your skin healthy. Moisturizers reestablish the stratum corneum, your outermost layer of the skin, which protects you from harmful pollutants and chemicals and prevents further irritation or dryness.
How often should you apply SPF?
You need to apply every couple of hours for full protection no matter what SPF or brand you have! If you haven’t purchased sunscreen in a year, I would advise tossing the old one and getting a new one as it won’t be any good after opening.
Do I need to change my skincare routine?
I am not a fan of anyone switching up their skincare routine seasonally. If it’s working don’t fix it! I would suggest dressing your face lighter like you would with your wardrobe. There are two changes to make. First, with your cleanser, you can go lighter with a foam or gel such as my pH Perfecting Wash which has the double benefit of gentle exfoliation with alpha-hydroxy acid (AHA) to help open up blocked pores and remove oils that result in acne. You should also then lighten up with your moisturizer as explained above.
What is the best product to use to help prevent pigmentation?
If you haven’t already, invest in a good vitamin C such as my awarding winning C + - Pure Ampoules Plus Ionic Wand. I do tell all my clients to use this year-round, but it is even more important in the summer. Vitamin C helps prevent hyperpigmentation, improve the appearance of fine lines and can help with collagen production. Layer a few drops on your skin after using your water-based serums and massage all your serums in using my ionic wand.
Can you share a good daily protocol for preventing pigmentation in the summer?
Yes, this is a simple protocol for anyone prone to pigmentation with normal to dry skin. If you have oily skin, switch the cream to Biologique Recherche Crème Dermopurifiante. This protocol will help correct existing imperfections and prevent the appearance of further pigmentation spots. With regular use, your complexion becomes brighter and your skin becomes uniform. Note, we always recommend you get a skincare consultation which you can do in person and online to pick the best products for you.
